Single Planetary Mixer

The planetary mixer is so called because inside the mixer bowl the mixing agitator (commonly known as the beater) rotates in a planetary movement. The single planetary mixer's bowl consists of a cylindrical upper section and a hemispherical lower section. The profile of the beater is shaped to match the bowl 's lower curved surface. There are two kinds of motions of the beater: it rotates at high speed on its own vertical axis. At the same time, it rotates at a comparatively lower speed around the center of the bowl.

In mixing the contents of the bowl, the planetary motion of the beater is very effective. In the mixing bowl, no dead spaces exist. To wipe any material that may stick to the internal surface of the bowl, scrapers with soft edges may be provided.

The bowl is lowered after the mixing is completed and can easily be separated and removed from the assembly of the mixer. The discharge of material from the mixer bowl can be by manual scooping when the material is pasty and does not flow or through a bottom discharge valve when the material is flowable.

The single planetary mixer is used for mixing of dry and wet powders, light pastes, gels and dough. This mixer is very popular in the food and bakery industry because of the simple construction, operation and relatively lower cost. The batter, wire whip and hook type are the most widely used beaters. For cake batters and general mixing applications, the batter beater is used. The wire whip is used for beating cream and egg foams. The hook beater is used for yeast dough, bread and bun dough or for pastry mixing and kneading.
