Twin Shaft Paddle Mixer

The twin shaft paddle mixer consists of paddles mounted on separate shafts in a 'w' shaped mixing vessel. The twin shaft, counter-rotating, overlapping paddles lift the particles in the centre of the mixer trough, in the fluidized zone, where mixing takes place in a weightless state. This results in random movement of particles in all directions.

Slightly above the shaft, is the standard filling level of material in the mixer. Thus, the mixing vessel has excess space to provide air around the particles so that they can move around freely. Combined with the overlapping motion and paddle configuration, the precise speeds of the shafts enables rapid fluidization and ensures excellent particle movement, mixing.

Material charging is from the top of the mixing vessel. The paddles operate at a peripheral speeds of approximately 100 meters per minute. Due to their rapid mixing times and gentle operation, the twin shaft paddle mixers are popular when it comes to blending of dry powders. Mixing time can be as low as 1 minute for dry free flowing powders, but may be higher in case of cohesive solids. Using a twin shaft paddle mixer, it is possible to achieve 98-99 percent mixing homogeneity. The product is discharged through the two wide bomb bay doors at the bottom of the vessel.

For breaking down any lumps in the feed material, the mixer can be fitted with pin-mills above the paddles. For liquid addition, spray nozzles can be provided. In the mixer, high-speed choppers can be installed for the de-agglomeration of lumps.

Twin-shaft paddle mixers are used in industries such as animal feed, food, chemicals , pharmaceuticals, construction and the environment.
